The European Golf Course of the Year 2000 Druids Glen, situated on the ancestral estate of Sir Thomas Wentworth and is acknowledged as a masterpiece. Druids Glen had the honour of hosting the 1996,1997, 1998 and 1999  Irish Open Golf Championship.

Nestling in the heart of Co Wicklow at Newtownmountkennedy, the objective behind Tom Craddock and Pat Ruddy's design was to create Ireland's best parkland golf course.

The course measures 7,000 yards and reflects the magic one would expect in a Druids Glen. Eamonn Darcy, Ryder Cup player and touring professional at Druids Glen Golf Club, assesses the course as "a remarkable golf course unlike any seen in Europe until now. It is both technically demanding and a pleasure to view. A great experience for champion and club golfer alike".

THE HOLES

Quite clearly, Druids Glen has come to be a golf club apart.

Accepted by the most demanding guidelines as being suitably compatible with the storied fabric of Ireland's greatest international golf events.

Indeed, the mystically named Druids Glen is heralded as something akin to a golfing Garden of Eden, appropriately sited in one of the loveliest settings of scenic Co. Wicklow, itself renowned as the Garden of Ireland.

At first glance, the Ryder Cup ace Eamonn Darcy, prior to joining as club professional, was moved to exclaim "At Druids Glen they have created a complete litany of great hole thrills - I think it is superb".

Savour the thrill of the Par 3 second hole of some 190 yards and broadly based on the second shot to the infamous Road Hole at St. Andrews, Scotland.

The Par 3 eighth of 166 yards is across water,

its stunning visual challenge just a few teasing yards removed from the 16th at Augusta National.

The 17th hole features an island green which presents to golfers in Ireland a first major appetising taste of state of the art golfing architecture. On the tee, the heart will beat as you stand appreciatively aghast and pondering. how, and by how many !

18th Hole

It is hardly possible to conceive a more complimentary crescendo to any golfing odyssey than that which unfolds up the climbing and wondrous Par 5  18th hole where the final green is a tantalising target, fronted by not one... or two... but three shimmering lakes which, with clever design concept, cascade over granite-stoned weirs, one into the other.

This very climax of the final hole on the course serves to amply encompass the great adventure you have experienced, combining as it passionately does, a pungent sense of vision... sound... and movement that can bewitch and bemuse and which truly compounds the drama and beauty of it all.

At Druids Glen you are partaking in a sporting ambience and challenge that stands apart. By any appraisement, the course has unfolded as one of the more sophisticated homes of the game. Be suitably indulged.

DRUIDS GLEN GOLF ACADEMY

The complex attached to the world famous golf course has a driving range (20 indoor bays under construction) and 30 outdoor grass bays, three high quality and challenging Golf Holes, Putting Green and Practice Bunkers.

CLUB HOUSE

Woodstock House, now the clubhouse of Druids Glen has been restored to its original splendour. A stately manor was built around 1760 by a son of the Earl of Aldborough and modernised and enlarged in the early 1800s by Lord Robert Tottenham, the Bishop of Ferns and subsequently of Clougher. It features high ceilings, classic columns and exquisitely ornate plaster work on the ceilings and cornices. In its resplendent restored and updated state, it surely is one of the World's most stunning clubhouses.

The beautifully restored clubhouse facilities include Bar, Lounge, Dining Rooms, Spikegrill, Conference facility and Sun Terrace. Special facilities are reserved for members and their guests. Efficient, friendly staff ensure that all requirements are catered for.

DINING FACILITIES

Druids Glen contains one of Europe's finest restaurants with superb views of the Irish Sea and the Wicklow mountains and has gained a reputation for providing excellent value. The restaurant caters for all special requests. Sun terrace area for receptions and cocktail parties.
